World War II photos taken in the former USSR during World War II on the occupied territories. These are photos from family archives posted online by grandchildren of those who took part in the war: the authors of most of them remain unknown. Some of the photos belong to the Soviet journalists: Dmitri Baltermants and Vladimir Lupejko. The photographs are cruel and shocking, but they should teach us about life and how precious it is. We are all equals during our short life on this planet and all nations should embrace others and cease all conflicts. For the better future of our children, may the history never repeat itself.
I’m not sure you realise this, but (at least on the first page) none of the photos are cruel or shocking. There’s people watching a street performance, soldiers on the move en masse (unsurprising, it’s war/post-war), soldiers sleeping, people clearing rubble, people working in industries…
Durden, you are not correct to say these are from WW1. Check out the tanks as these are WWII technology as WWI were very basic at best. WWII was an open type of war as shown here whereas WWI was predominately fought in trenches and only small territorial losses or gains. Also, note the Russian soldiers with a CCCP flag ie Union of Soviet Socialist Replubic which did not exist until after WWI
all the pics are from world war two .they are armed with 91/30 mosin nagant rifles . .ppsh41 . .dp lmg ..and a 1930s pm1910 maxim hmg.there is not one picture from world war one in theses pics.
Durden, I think you’re wrong. Do you have any evidence for thinking most of these pictures are from WWI?
i believe most of the pics are from WWI. do some research before claiming, poster.
but i do agree O’Slow..war s**ks!
Some of those are a fotographers dream snaps. Pleas give names of fotographers if possible
What is shocking about these photos? I think anyone would expect WWII photos to be more shocking than these. In fact, without context, people might not know that some of these photos are during WWII.
very good collection, some are obviously soviet propaganda fotos, a neutral unbiased description however short would have been good
The shot of the assault troops with SMGs lined up in front of two KV1s is impressive and says much about the tactical psychology of Red Army offensives. However, I would put money on most of the combat photos being staged after the event, which the Soviets were known to do.
I don’t really like war photos, but they must be made available to know about the past.
Not many photos like this available anymore. Black and White photography rules.
picture 8 is an well known manipulated propaganda photo
Cool collection. However, a lot of them are Dmitry Baltermants’ work, and, being one of the foremost photographers in the soviet union, I’d say his work was far from unseen.
Eighth picture down, the Russian women standing over the bodies, has been published before.
such a devastation..can v help..?
